CIH, Nagaland organizes Farmers Awareness Programme at Meghalaya
Central Institute of Horticulture, Nagaland organized a 02 days Farmers Awareness Programme on Marketing and Value Addition of Horticulture Crops at District Horticulture Office, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya on 30th & 31st August 2019.
The programme was organized in collaboration of Dept. of Horticulture, Govt. of Meghalaya. The objective of the programme was to create awareness on avenues for marketing of horticulture crops and generating income through value added products.
The inaugural programme was graced by Dr. Venkatesh N Hubballi, Director, Directorate of Cashewnut and Cocoa Development, Kochi who in his address shared insights on potential of cashew production and processing in north east region. Smt. Jean Sohliya, Dy. Director (M & FM), Dept. of Horticulture, in her address, highlighted upon the initiatives taken by Meghalaya horticulture dept for the upliftment and growth of farmers. Brief remark was given by Shri. M L Suiam (MAS), OSD, Directorate of Food Processing, Govt. of Meghalaya.
Earlier, Director, CIH, Dr. N K Patle welcomed all the participants and gave a brief presentation on the programmes and achievements of the institute.
Lectures were delivered by Mr. Shivanjan Dalmia, Managing Director, Greenfields Pvt. Ltd. & Mr. Prabin Das, Marketing Specialist, CIH. A practical demonstration on preparation of value added products of pineapple and ginger was given Ms. Vinika K Aomi, Post Harvest Technologist, CIH.
Altogether, 51 farmers from four FPCs from Ri-Bhoi & Garo Hills districts of Meghalaya attended the awareness programme.
